This is the one you've been asking for: the first full tutorial of Metrica Nexus 2.0, covering every feature in a single, step-by-step video. Whether you're on a free trial, an active user upgrading to 2.0, or a student learning performance analysis, this walkthrough takes you from your very first clip all the way to a finished, TV-quality presentation, including everything new in this release, like the Nexus Explorer multi-game analyzer.

Press play for the complete guide, then use the chapters below to jump to any feature.

What's new in Metrica Nexus 2.0

Nexus 2.0 brings the entire analysis workflow into one faster, more flexible environment. The headline addition is the Nexus Explorer, a multi-game analyzer that lets you search events across several matches at once. Alongside it, this version refines the Coding Pad, live streaming and Nexus Mobile sharing to the bench, three tracking modes (manual, automatic and full-clip), advanced telestration, and the Showcase Panel for live presenting. This tutorial covers all of it.

Getting started: workspace, language and interface

When you open the app after registering, you can create a new workspace or open an existing one, and switch the software language from the bottom-right corner. Nexus 2.0 uses a fully flexible, tab-based interface: every panel, from visualizations to the Coding Pad can be grabbed, moved and arranged into a layout that fits how you work. Everything you need is also one click away in the Help Center, including tutorials for every feature, a full list of shortcuts, hardware requirements, and ready-made presets and Coding Pad templates.

Quick tagging: from a full match to clips in seconds

The fastest way to start is to drag and drop a full match and use quick tagging. Press R to record a clip and the spacebar to stop, or use S to instantly save a clip based on your pre- and post-time settings. Save straight into a named folder, and move through the match with the arrow keys without waiting for playback to catch up. The video canvas lets you zoom with the mouse wheel or trackpad, toggle sound, change speed and resolution, go fullscreen, and even detach the video to a second monitor.

Coding and the Coding Pad

To code a match, create a new coding sequence, select your match and enable the Coding Pad. Build codes, tags, images and connectors, or load your own template and customize everything in the element settings, from scale and color to font, counter and shortcut. Choose a recording mode (click to start and stop) or the instant-save "Saving Time" code, then switch from Edit to Record and code post-match at your own speed. Every code lands on the timeline, where you can review it, read its details and add notes.

Importing and filtering XML

Already have data? Import an XML from any provider and see the full game tagged instantly. Filter efficiently with keyboard shortcuts, Command + right-click to select a whole row of events, and Command + up/down arrows to move through the selection one by one. Save the clips that matter into your organizer with the S button, create a dedicated folder such as "Final Presentation," and refine your selection by trimming, extending or merging events directly on the timeline.

Live coding and Nexus Mobile

Live coding follows the same routine as post-match, with a different start. From the Live Canvas, open Live Settings to see your available connections. Nexus works with automated camera systems (such as Veo, Spiideo, Hudl and Focus), URL sources, and even a wireless iPhone-to-MacBook connection. Choose your encoding settings, start the recording, and load your Coding Pad as usual.

With the mobile connection enabled and the Nexus Mobile app installed on a phone, tablet or laptop, your stream starts automatically, and you can share individual codes with the bench so anyone connected on the same network sees those events in real time.

Nexus Explorer: analyze several games at once

The standout of 2.0. The Nexus Explorer automatically recognizes any XML you've imported and lets you drop in multiple videos and data files. Move to the Event Explorer to search across several matches at once: filter by player, by tag, and by time (from/until), preview any clip, and export it or add it straight to a playlist. Build your final presentation from moments spanning multiple games, then minimize or close the Explorer and find your new folder ready to go. You can also open your own existing coding-sequence workspaces here, bringing all that information into one place.

Telestration and tracking

Then comes the fun part: telestration. Depending on your plan, you get different levels of tracking:

  • Manual tracking: set at least four reference points for the field, or play-pause to follow a player, enabling 3D and spatial annotations like distance and speed.

  • Automatic tracking: pick an annotation and the player(s), and let the AI track them for you.

  • Full-clip tracking: one click tracks the entire field and every player, and detects the teams for advanced tactical annotations like team-size areas, offside lines and 3D field radars.

Every annotation is fully customizable, scale, radius, units, width, color, perspective and any look you like can be right-clicked and saved as a preset for instant reuse across projects.

Presenting and exporting

Finish your presentation by adding slides (import your own images or download templates from the Help Center). When you're done, export the whole folder as a container to share with teammates, or as a video, as separate clips or a single file, with your own descriptions and video settings, processed in the background via the export queue.

Presenting live with the Showcase Panel

For in-room sessions, the Showcase Panel plays your analysis directly from the software with a dedicated set of annotations. Highlight game situations, use slow motion, change timing, and add tactical annotations that disappear the moment you press play. Zoom in for detail during team talks, and add your favorite annotations to your showcase presets for a consistent, professional delivery every time.
