Chroma Key

Chroma Key

Make your visualizations look professional by placing them underneath players with PlayBase’s powerful Chroma Key tool.

Want your visualizations to blend naturally with the video—like they’re part of the original footage? That’s where Chroma Key comes in.

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to use Chroma Key to make your graphics appear beneath the players, adding a polished, broadcast-style effect to your clips.

What is Chroma Key?

Chroma Key is a visual effect that allows your annotations to appear underneath the moving players in the video. It creates a more realistic presentation by simulating 3D depth.

It’s especially useful for:

  • Text or drawings on the pitch

  • Visuals like zones, circles, or arrows

  • Highlighting tactical areas without covering players

How to Use Chroma Key

  1. Open a clip in the Annotations Module

  2. Add your visual (e.g. text, zone, arrow)

  3. Click the Chroma Key button in the toolbar

  4. Extend the visual’s duration using the timeline bar

Once enabled, the effect will automatically position your drawing under the players’ movement.

Key Benefits

  • Enhances presentation quality

  • Increases viewer focus on tactical points

  • Looks cleaner and more dynamic during playback or export

When to Use It

  • To show zones (e.g. pressing traps, build-up lanes)

  • To label tactical phases with large text

  • To keep player movement visible while drawing underneath

Pro Tip

Combine Chroma Key with Field Tracking (manual or automatic) for 3D positioning, distances, and anchored visuals that stay in place even when the camera moves.
