Automatic Field Tracking

Automatic Field Tracking

Let PlayBase automatically calibrate the pitch so you can add advanced 3D visuals without manual setup.

Manual field calibration gives you control, but if you want speed and simplicity, Automatic Field Tracking does the job for you.

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how PlayBase can detect and calibrate the field automatically—so you can immediately place anchored, 3D telestration effects without any manual input.

What Is Automatic Field Tracking?

This feature uses AI to automatically recognize and map a football pitch, allowing you to:

  • Skip manual calibration

  • Instantly place visuals that move naturally with the camera

  • Use advanced effects like 3D text, anchored distances, and dynamic drawings

It’s fast, reliable, and requires no field marking.

How to Use It

  1. Open your clip in the Annotations Module

  2. Click the Field Tracking button

  3. Select Automatic Calibration

  4. PlayBase will process the field using built-in computer vision

  5. Once completed, your pitch is fully calibrated and ready

You can now add visuals that will stay fixed to the field regardless of camera movement.

What You Can Do

  • Add 3D text (e.g. “Defensive Transition”) anchored to the pitch

  • Create player-to-player distances and draw trails

  • Add zones, tactical lines, or pinpoints for player instructions

  • Combine with Chroma Key to show players running over your visuals

Pro Tip

Use this feature to quickly enhance your presentations without spending time on setup. It works especially well for top-down or broadcast camera angles.
