Getting Started
Learn how to pause a clip and add drawings directly on screen to clearly illustrate positioning, movement, or corrections.
Sometimes, the best way to explain a tactical point is to freeze the action and draw directly on the screen. In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to use telestration in pauses to create clear, instructive visuals at key moments in your clips.
What Are Pauses?
Pauses are frozen frames that let you stop the video and add drawings or highlights without the distraction of movement. They’re ideal for:
Emphasizing player positioning
Showing where players should have moved
Explaining tactical adjustments in detail
How to Add a Pause
Open your clip in the Annotations Module
Move the timeline to the frame you want to pause
Click the + button, then choose Pause & Drawings
A pause icon will appear on the timeline
Click the pause icon to open the drawing interface
Now you can add any visuals to the frozen frame.
What Can You Draw?
Inside a pause, you can add:
Arrows, shapes, and highlights
The Dragger tool (to reposition players and show intended movement)
Text annotations
Zones or marking areas
Set the Pause Duration
You can control how long the pause lasts when exported by adjusting the duration in the pause settings. This doesn’t affect how it looks during editing—only when presenting or exporting the video.
Best Practices
Use pauses sparingly for maximum impact
Keep drawings clear and to the point
Combine with other visuals like Chroma Key or Field Tracking for more depth
